And how does what you're reading influence what you're writing?

Right now I'm in the middle of two books. Or I will be by this afternoon, at least. I'm in the middle of a book that arrived in the mail earlier this week, a book called "Plague: the mysterious past and terrifying future of the world's most dangerous disease," which is a very well-written non-fiction account of my favourite disease. What just arrived in the mail this morning is a book about a teenage serial killer in the 1870s, one I am unfamiliar with. I adore true crime novels, and it's always fun to read about a new one. I plan to dive into that without delay.

I'm not sure how it is affecting my writing, if it is at all. I've already written a plague chapter into book two, and have no plans to write in a serial killer. It's an interesting thought, but I have so much stuff to cram into book three already, I don't know how I'll finish it in one book as is! No time for amusing little side adventures like that, I don't think. Dammit, no time! But that would be so much fun! No. No time!
