Am I blue
Am I blue
Ain't these tears in my eyes tellin' you

Would anyone happen to know who is the artist for the version of "Am I Blue" that opens Moon Over Morocco? Thanks!

It could be an old Ricky Nelson song - from way back when I was a young 'un... my mom had a '45' with that song on it.

Am I blue
Am I blue
Ain't these tears in my eyes tellin' you
Well am I blue
You'd be too

If each plan that you had, done and fell through
There was a time I was your only one
but now I'm the sad and lonely one
Was I gay
I should say
Now she's gone and we're through
Am I blue

Dunno if the tune is the same, as I haven't heard the Moon Over Morocco version, and I don't know if the song was re-recorded by someone else for Moon Over Morocco. According to the cover image (provided above by our illustrious host) the music was recorded in Morocco. Perhaps the cover states who the artist is on the back, or something. Passing the ball on that...

I'm pretty sure it is a version recorded in the 1920s or 1930s. If not, it is a cover done in that style.

Yeah, I know the song but don't know who does that version of it. Same with "Green Eyes" in 4th Tower. I found a version I think is right, but it's hard to be positive. And it doesn't say who the artist is.

The song was written in 1929 and has been covered by too many artists to count!

I can't remember exactly what the "Fourth Tower" version sounds like. Was it a man or a woman?

Here is a 1929 version by Annette Henshaw. Is this it?

How about this one? Sounds more familiar..

1929 version by Ben Selvin Orchestra, vocals by Smith Ballew. The vocal section doesn't start until about 2/3 or the way into the song, as this is mostly a Big Band musical version.

It's hard to say without the "scratchy record" sound and the train conductor calling in the foreground. I think it was a guy, but don't know for sure, nor if it was either of these versions. Of course, I'm too lazy right now to pull up the MOM disc and check it out. Mea culpa.

I actually think the thread that all the early ZBS songs have in common is public domain copyright so the version has to be old 20s or 30s era. I heard it once, outside of MOM, It's a mans voice, I want to say Cab Calloway. But I didn't know there was going to be a quiz so I didn't take notes. :dontknow:

After all these years, I think I've discovered the old gramophone 78 recording.

"Am I Blue?" by the Majestic Dance Orchestra (vocals Billy Murray) It dates back from May 31, 1929.

The intro clip used in Moon Over Morocco begins around 24 seconds in on the YouTube video and lasts about 45 seconds. For the Moon Over Morocco soundtrack, the recording is sped up about 5-7 percent and the pitch is raised about 5 percent. Despite these small adjustments, I'm convinced this is the recording. When those modifications are made, the recording matches the ZBS soundtrack.
